Underprivileged pupils from different schools around Kathorus have been given a much needed confidence boost as the new school term begins.
Chris Hani Mall conducted a fund-raising initiative in December to raise funds so they can assist the less fortunate learners in the area.
“We did face painting in the kiddies play area and the money which was collected was used towards buying the school shoes, the mall then matched up the balance,” said Lebo Matlala the centre manager.
Explaining how the criteria the mall used to select the school Matlala said that the mall receives yearly requests from the schools and the schools were randomly selected.
The mall donated 20 pairs to Nageng Primary School, 20 pairs to Dzulani Primary School, 20 pairs to Abram Hlophe Primary School another 20 pairs to Abinala Primary School and Fountain of Love Orphanage received 10 pairs.
Ekurhuleni School for the deaf was the last school to receive the school shoes and 62 pairs were donated on Thursday last week.
Konki Moabelo, HOD at the school expressed her gratitude for the good gesture done by the mall in restoring confidences in her learners.
“We are really grateful as the school, the school has done more than enough to assist learners coming from disadvantaged families. We are happy and so are our learners,” she said.
