Residents of Alberton who will not be around on 8 May to cast their votes during the general elections, are encouraged to register for special votes.
People who qualify to register for special votes are those who are unable to visit the voting station due to some form of disability, those who will be working on voting day and those who will be absent on voting day.
The special voting day will take place on 6 and 7 May, and those wishing to register for special votes need to make sure they are available on these days.
To verify whether you qualify for a special vote please ensure that you are a registered voter and have a valid South African identity document (green, barcoded ID book; smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate).
To check that you’re registered and to find out where you’re registered, you can:
SMS your ID number to 32810; or call the IEC’s contact centre on 0800 11 800.
You can also visit the local IEC office on the third floor at the Alberton Civic Centre.
